What are we learning?

Exploring Ice

Last week we had fun exploring ice balloons and creatures trapped in the ice. We talked about what ice is made of, what it felt like, what they could see inside and what was happening to the ice as they held it. Here are some of the things the children said about the ice.

It feels really cold!           I can see bubbles inside the ice!

Mine looks like it has a jellyfish inside it!

It is melting and making my hands wet!

Ice is made from freezing cold water!

Chinese New Year

This week we have started our new theme of 'Chinese New Year'.  The children have had great fun taking on roles in our Chinese restaurant. We are still working on mastering chopsticks though!

We have been making lots of crafts linked to Chinese New Year. We had a parent visit us to talk about how her family celebrate Chinese New Year. On the last day of half term we tried some chinese food!

We even had a go at some Chinese writing.....

Welcome to the second half of the Spring Term.

We will be learning all about bears.

The children have enjoyed exploring in the teddy bears hospital.

In mathematics this week we have been exploring 3D shapes. The children were making them from marshmallows, cocktail sticks and straws. They talked about the shapes using their names and property language such as corners, faces and edges.

Pancake Day!

The children have had fun making pancakes today. We talked about how it is important to ave clean hands before you start cooking so that germs are not spread. We then talked about how we follow recipes when we are cooking. We used the recipe to select our ingredients, measure them and mix them together.  Before cooking the pancake we talked about safety around the oven. The children watched as their pancake cooked and then they even had a go at flipping their own pancake! The children talked about how the pancake mixture changed when it was cooked. Finally they got to eat their pancake! Yummy!

We talked about why Christians celebrate pancake day and why they eat pancakes. We discussed what happens during 'Lent' and the children talked about the things they liked to have on their pancakes.

World Book Day

The children dressed up as characters from their favourite stories today! They brought their books in to share and were very excited when Year 6 came to visit from the Junior School to share stories with them.

Talk For Writing

This half term we have been working on 'Bears Magic Pencil' by Anthony Browne.  The children have been learning the story and helped create a story map for it.

Here is our version of the story.

Enjoy watching the children perform our adapted version of Bears Magic Pencil!

We have noticed our spring flowers in the garden are starting to pop up! We painted some of them.

Welcome to the first half of the Summer Term.

We will be learning all about the farm.

We are looking forward to our visit to Stockley Farm this half term and our new talk for writing text.

We had a fabulous time at Stockley Farm! Here are some photos of our day.

Over the next week we will be working on writing a recount of our visit to the farm. We will be using the time connectives: first, next, after that and finally.
